Todays venues report and much more

hey guys so me and Antonio, went out again to find venues and came to a conclusion about the venues. Most of the venues we have seen are very small which is not ideal for a fringe performance. it would be very cramped and would not create a good atmosphere for the audience, plus the lay out of the space we have seen doesn't look very artuadian and would most likely confuse the audience right from the start. Now the way we are going with the theme of the play, me and Antonio both agreed that 'The Basement' or 'the Nightingale' would make more sense to use as a venue for the Fringe just cause the way its designed kind of feels artoudian anyway. and would create a better atmosphere plus more sense for the audience. i have spoken to Vanessa and she has said to me that she has proposed the basement but has not booked it properly, so we can still put this as an option for the fringe. we will speak more when we next speak.

today we went to the kemedia, the main space is not for hire just cause there is regular shows throughout the year. however the studio in the basement is for hire. however in terms of prices they were just making the figure and couldn't give use a price, all we know is that the pricing is going up. however last year their prices were around £100 - £210 for 2 1/2 hours. this includes technical support which includes sound and lighting which is pretty good. however if we were going to use this we would need to be very strict on getting to the space on time and do not mess around. but good news is that they will be willing to negotiate on lowering the price if it is not on the main slots which usually is around 5 pm to 1:30 am (remember this was last year everything is changing for the new year.) I don't know about how many shows we want to do but if we wanted to have two shows then we will need to pay for more, but the price will drop by 50% for the next 2 1/2 hours. STRESSING THE POINT! now don't jump the gun on this they already have had proposals for that space so if you guys want to use this for the our performance we need to make a proposal good enough for them to give us the space. The slotted time will also be given to use by random cause they have to compensate for other performances.

now in terms on the actually stage there is a platform stage, a lighting desk with sound equipment. the chairs can probably be moved but we might need to check with them. as an idea i think this would be great to have some sought of jazzy club with gangsters and bring a classy style to it just cause it came to my mind when i walked, (sorry for the poor explanation i'm very tired). maybe make this a scripted play. as the theme which every is stuck on i think it just would work here. personally it would make more sense to go for a different theme.

One last thing, Guys please keep thinking of ideas for themes and styles of how we can make a piece of theatre. The idea we have is great but Just One Idea for me isn't good enough to be honest. to me it kind of seems Student and were not students anymore we are a THEATRE COMPANY. i have being in productions where we had 15 ideas for a play.   if you have sat to listen to other actors after there devised performances, when asked what ideas they came up with before they even began to devise. i always hear the same thing they bounced idea after idea around until they came up with something to genuine. don't be lazy and stick with one idea, cause i don't to be looking back and regret not trying a few ideas that could of made an even greater play.

WE HAVE TIME TO THINK OF IDEAS FOR A DEVISED AND SCRIPTED PLAY!!! IF WE RUSH IN, KEEP TO JUST ONE IDEA AND NOT LOOK AT ANY ALTERNATIVES FOR AN IDEA FOR A PLAY WE PROBABLY LOOK BACK WITH A LITTLE SENSE OF REGRET. WERE A SMART BUNCH OF PROFESSIONAL ACTORS LETS ACT LIKE THEM!

food for thought

  1. Sorry Yiannis regarding your last bit you haven't come up with an ideia yourself so i don't think it's fair what your saying. The idea that Radley and Alex came up with its just a base line for now it can be developed much more if we all put the effort into it...So i guess tomorrow we'll be hearing your idea?? Sorry i'm not trying to be sarcastic but i really don't think your last bit was necessary but i guess that just my opinion.

  2. Mind the pitfalls of collaboration we discussed please. The common goal is to do well and learn lots. Great work on locations boys well done. Not sure basement or nightingale would host student productions during festival but have a go. You might be functioning as a company but you have no track record as yet so those venues may be better for scratch. Look after each other and value the challenges you each throw in.

  3. well to Answer Catia, i know i haven't put any real idea forward because i have being spending most of my time going out looking for venues, going back to London to work, having to think of a essay to do, doing the work joe assign us, and also to prepare for my monologues for my course for LA which is in a few weeks. so forgive me if this is harsh but i do not have anymore time left in my schedule to put any real idea forward just cause i have other stuff at the moment, i am physically exhausted. to add to this i have cold as well but i still go out in the cold and rain to get the best venue for this company. so don't tell me that i haven't been fair because i have been picking up the slack with antonio its up to us to work as professionals and work as a team. and i don't feel there is been much support for everyone else
