Go mingle this friday!

devising group feedback

Apologies for feedback and run, had to come and see show.

a note about feedback. it is advice not instruction and you can choose to listen and ignore.

had an idea that the play is set in a debtors prison and everyone is trying to get enough money of each other to get out. something like this;

why is charlie is looking for daisy,? nicole is trying to con you. Radley is still waiting for his student loan to come in, George needs just another £50 and there is only so much money to go around.  who the hell are the thwaites and why is everyone is so much debt?

will write more later as i'm in a rush again.

Scratch Night

As we have discussed, i will offer Anthony (ex student) the opportunity to present an extract for feedback during your scratch night. I think we could have another one or even two pieces. Would that be ok with you? Perhaps i can advertise on alumni page to support fellow Northbrookers. Please let me know if any objections.

Thanks

Fringe listing

Hello all,

Nick has very kindly (and out of work hours), just approved separate fringe listings so each of the groups can now appear as a separate listing for the Brighton Fringe. Get working on your blurb and please run it by me and Lisa for feedback.

Vanessa

Email from venue

Hi there,
My name's Natalie and I'm taking on all administrative duties for Upstairs at Three and Ten, The Warren and The Burrow. I'll be responsible for collecting and proofing all your copy, press materials and images; registering your shows with the Fringe; assembling our brochure; and keeping you up to date with deadlines and key dates as they arise.
I'll be in regular touch with you throughout about all these matters and more, and will be your first point of contact regarding all things Fringe.
Firstly, please can you send us your final images as soon as possible? The deadline for this is fast approaching. Here is what we need:
We require the same image in three different sizes, with no text at all on the image. The sizes, in accordance with Fringe requirements, are:
·         One low-res Jpeg (120 pixels x 120 pixels [72 dpi]) for the Fringe website, labelled: Show title - Event section - Web image (e.g. Hamlet-Theatre-Web image)
·         One hi-res Jpeg CMYK (25mm widthx 29mm height [portrait - 300dpi]) for the Fringe brochure, labelled: Show title-Event Section-Brochure image (e.g. Hamlet-Theatre-Brochure image).
·         One hi-res Jpeg (maximum size of 2MB) as your press image, labelled: Show title-Event section-Press image.
If this is your first time at Brighton Fringe, below is a brief guide to providing the correct images.
Image Guidance

Photo format:
Landscape and portrait are fine. Colour or Black & White. 300 dpi.

Image Resolution:
Resolution refers to the number of dots (or pixels) that are in a given area.
The resolution of an image is measured in dots per inch (dpi).
To achieve the best quality an image should be supplied at 300dpi when printed
at 100% size (if enlarged the resolution will decrease, i.e. an image supplied at
300dpi will reduce to 150dpi if enlarged by 200%). Do not use images from a
website which will only be 72dpi and will look blurry if printed.

What to look for:
So if you want to know whether your image will be high enough
resolution for print, just look at the size of the JPEG.

The following will give you a rough guide:
• If the JPEG is less than 250kb, it will only be suitable for use on screen, i.e on the web.
• 1.5mb - 2mb up to A5
• 3.5mb up to A4

Digital Cameras:
If using a digital camera images must be supplied as JPEG files to a resolution of at least 300dpi.
To do this use the highest resolution setting on your camera (many default settings will be lower).
Images that look good on your screen may only be 72dpi so even though they look fine on
screen the resolution may be too low to print successfully.

File format:
Jpg, eps, tiff or psd (at a resolution of 300 dpi) or an
original Adobe Illustrator (.ai or eps)

REMEMBER:
The bigger your image file the better!
If you're unsure about how to do this, images can be easily re-sized in Photoshop or equivalent programmes. And, if you've got a designer, he/she will be able to do it all with ease. Once the resizing is done, please attach the images as a reply to this email. The deadline for this is Midday on Friday 1st February
Press & PR
If you would like assistance in handling press and PR during the Brighton Fringe, we recommend freelance communications specialist Nione Meakin, who also does our Press and PR. Read more about her work here:http://www.linkedin.com/profile/view?id=108010789&trk=hb_tab_pro_top.
You can contact her directly on nionemeakin@hotmail.com.
Publicity Materials
I will be in touch again about print over the next couple of weeks, but would like to leave you with some of our requirements for those eager to get organising.
This year we are asking that companies put a branded banner on the bottom of their Brighton Fringe posters and flyers. This will contain all the specific show/venue information and clearly identify where your show is taking place. We have a strong reputation amidst Brighton audiences, so it's helpful to tap into this. Therefore If you are producing any print before I have sent you a further print related email, I would ask that you get in touch before signing off.
Additionally we can highly recommend the Design services of Ifan Bates of Beak Design, who designed our brochure and website in 2012 and will do so again this year. He’s offering a discount to all performing at Otherplace Productions venues.
Please find attached his rate card, contact details and links to examples of his work.
Some Key Dates and Deadlines to Keep in mind.
You either will have, or will soon, receive an e-mail from us giving you a final chance to proof the information you've provided us with for entering the Fringe. If you do not need to make any changes, then you do not need to do anything, as if we do not hear from you we will assume everything is correct. However, if you need to change or update anything at all, the deadline for returning this is Saturday 2 February.
We must have received your Registration Fees and Brochure/Publicity Fees by the coming weekend too. We will not register companies with the Fringe if we have not received this or heard from you.
Contracts, Box Office logins, Tech Schedules will all be sent out towards the end of February.
The Fringe Box Office opens, to Friends of the Fringe, on Wednesday 27 February. Tickets go on general sale on Wednesday 6 March. We will have tickets on sale at the same time.
Payment for outstanding Venue Hire will be due in March.
Our Brochure will be out the week beginning 4 March.
The Fringe Brochure will be out the week beginning 12 March.
If you have any questions at all, don't hesitate to ask.
Thanks very much, and welcome on board!

Best wishes,
Natalie x

Venue tomorrow

Thanks Vanessa, I think we should catch up with you let you know what we have so far and then take it from there. Sorry had to post as I can't comment back :/

3 and 10 meetup and The Servant

Yea to be honest, by the time we'd get back to IB it would be nearer 2pm and a bit late to start rehearsals. Can we stay in Brighton and discuss more ideas? I wanted to ask permission if I can leave about 3:30pm too please?

I found The Servant full movie on youtube, only watched half of it and it has now been deleted!! very annoying. I can't see it anywhere else apart from a couple of sites where you create an account to watch. One site gave me dodgy ads which might have been virusy. If anyone else has it or finds it can you let us know please? cheers

Venue visit

Seeing as I can't comment, thought I'd put up a post. I think we definitely need to catch up with Vanessa after 3 and 10. I know we need to rehearse but Vanessa definitely needs to know our ideas

Venue visit

Hello all,

a reminder that we are visiting the upstairs at the three adn ten tomorrow at 10.00 am. Please remember we only have an hour there and an hour with Nicky so please be on time. Map on venue website.

After that, groups can return to ivybrook to rehearse, or we can spend the day in brighton and catch up on progressions and developments depending on your schedules.

thanks

vanessa

I found a website with good descriptions of clothing in the 1850s for men and women! They have descriptions throughout the 1800s! :)

Well done on your performances today, good progress and ideas coming together!

Wednesday, 23 January 2013

I am so sorry. I've been checking the blog this year and seen nothing here since December. I wrote my bit below and when I went to check it had been published, I saw all these posts!!!!!!!!!!!! I never knew these were here. No wonder you were complaining Vanessa!!!! So sorry. Now I understand what you've been talking about! I will catch up with it all soon! not enough time to read them all now. PS chocolate is worth a short walk for excercise, fresh air and a happy hyperactive productive and willing group!!! :)

Wednesday 23rd Jan

Hello guys,
I wanted to let you know that I've enjoyed the last two days immensly and I'm excited about the devising show. Good ideas, love the setting and the contemporary contrast , it means we are more free with the direction we want to take. Visually it will say one thing and the story will say something else. Redemption is a great theme and I can see how it will flow throughout. I really think we are working well together. Everyone is having input and given respect. Alex is doing a great job of directing and workshopping ideas and Shaun behind the scenes. I like the characters that have progressed just in a day. It will be interesting to see how they develop. With what we've got so far at this point I think the storyline and dialogue needs to be stronger than the plot and acting to push this through.
Great stuff. Hope all is going well for 'The Scripters' too!

PS hope I didn't hurt anyone today. Thank you to all who were physically and verbally abusive to me! seriously, I don't think it could've been easy for you. I found it a very difficult task myself trying to get angry, it's just not in my nature, I get cross about things but usually stay calm and resolve situations with words. I will continue to work on my anger and I normally practice getting into character outside rehearsals so just to warn everyone this is what I'll be doing, if I appear arrogant, moody or inappropriate it is only acting and hope you don't mind, if you do mind- please tell me! I'll try not to overstep the mark! :)

i wonder if i need to go to tesco tonight...

it would be a long cold walk for a chocolate run..... but i would happily go in the cold dark night....

if only i had good reason to

I don't know why nobody else has written back about the fringe? Am I the only one checking this blog and trying to keep up to date with everything. I can't be the only one, I can't do it all on my own. We need to supoort each other and work as a group, even though we are split in two for the fringe. First day back, things need to change. We need to prepare for this and get organised.

Unit 9 update

Hello all,
i have spoken to the artistic director of upstairs at the three and ten. Here is a copy of the email she sent me. Please respond to me asap so we can book. As you have not booked venues i would recommend this. We need to get costs approved by college. I am including rates in the email for your research.

So, here as promised are dates/details/prices. I have also attached a Fringe Application form for you to complete so that we have all our admin up to date with your details etc.

Thurs 28 Feb - Scratch night. 7.30pm start time. Get-in 1pm.
Hire fee £80 paid in advance (we will invoice you for this)

Brighton Fringe Performances - Weds 29 and Thurs 30 May. You can have the venue for the day (from 11am) and if you can be clear of the space by 8.10pm to make way for a later show that would be great. If the running time of your shows are approx one hour then you can decide how you want to work the start times (maybe a 5pm and 7pm show slots would work for you?)

Fees for the Fringe as set out below:
Venue Hire: (2 days, including tech time and shows) £340
Fringe Registration: £135
Otherplace Productions Brochure entry: £110
Technican Fees: £17.50 per performance - this is optional, so we'd suggest you use your own.

What I will need from you
50 words of copy for the Feb date (by Weds 10 Jan please)
Completed Fringe application form (copy on the form does not have to be difinitive now)
Confirmation of the fringe dates - if Nick approves. Will need to know if you can accept the offer asap pls.

Regarding the ticket prices for the scratch night - we suggest that we put tickets on sale on the internet for a nominal price of £

Let me know if you need any questions answered and no doubt we will speak again soon.

Love Nicky xx

ps If the students want to see the theatre in action I can recommend a super show next Tues evening - a really lovely group of actors do an improvised play and whilst I don't really like this sort of thing they are absolutely excellent. Starts at 7.30pm. Details onwww.upstairsatthreeandten.co.uk

unit 8 tutorials
