For my presentation i am planning on focusing on the process and development of the realtionship between pig and runt but played as both female. I wan to look at other plays similar to this as well as when developing the characterization of a male character developing into a female character by looking at other examples when, female actresses have had to play male characters for example Viola in Twelfth Night
great. will think of more examples of this to help you out. Also talk to sarah and how they have cast romeo and juliet. We portrayed female pig and runt as friends but there is a theory called 'queer theory' which looks at works of art from a perspective that might be relevant to what you are looking at in terms of adaptations. http://www.theory.org.uk/ctr-que1.htm
ReplyDeleteAlso worth thinking about how the same sex casting worked within the rest of the pairs who were mixed gender. Is it important to the play that one Pig is a boy or is it more important that the relationship is close? http://books.google.co.uk/books?id=GzsTKtDTek8C&pg=PA14&lpg=PA14&dq=women+playing+men+in+theatre&source=bl&ots=UR6pLzbuEF&sig=1CMzyX31AhBgKfwaMjXzcQL3b1g&hl=en&sa=X&ei=rGUUT_jKHZPC8QOL2bmMBA&redir_esc=y#v=onepage&q=women%20playing%20men%20in%20theatre&f=false

Thats great thank you just thought could pantomine be used as an example as the lead male and female roles are generaly both played by females.
ReplyDeleteyes but be careful isnt it part of pantomime conventions that men play women? are the parts not written with that in mind?
